History

The Grace Presbyterian Church (GPC) began meeting in 1974

It is a relatively young church that is strongly connected to historic Christianity. Unfortunately, in the late 1960's mainline New Zealand churches experienced serious problems when many of the main Bible doctrines were rejected.

For GPC, this led a small group of mainly university students, along with some older Christians, to form an independent Presbyterian fellowship in Christchurch. Over the years this church has grown and seeded daughter churches in Canterbury.

In the early days, GPC was ably ministered to by Dr Andrew Young. After a short stint in Australia, Andrew Young became principal of Grace Theological College in Auckland in 1995. After Pastor Young came the ministry of Rev Neal Benfell (Australia), who is now principal of a school in Australia. From 1999 until 2007, Geoff Macpherson was in full time ministry with Gisborne. In 2007, Pastor MacPherson moved on the plant a new church in his hometown, Gisborne.

GPC Today

In 2000, GPC was able to join with other like-minded churches in New Zealand to form the Grace Bible Churches (a federation of reformed Presbyterian churches).

Then, in February 2003, the Grace Presbyterian Church of New Zealand (a fully fledged denomination with a common constitution) was formed, with GPC as one of its founding members.

Today, GPC is an evangelical, Bible-believing and teaching church made up of families and individuals from all over New Zealand and the world.

GPC has a rich diversity of ethnic groups represented among its members, as well as people of all ages and stages in life. Central to the life and ministry of our church is clear, straightforward Bible teaching without gimmicks.

Presently, Rev Richard Eyre is serving as interim pastor with GPC.
